Dr. O’Brien is the Medical Director of Cardiology Specialists of Virginia. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University in 1982, his medical degree in 1986 from the University of Virginia, and completed his Internal Medicine Residency in 1989 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he focused on the study of echocardiography.
Dr. O’Brien practices adult Cardiology focusing on the diagnosis, management and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. He has a special interest in echocardiography, including stress and transesophageal echo, as well as vascular imaging. He is a frequent speaker on the management of hypertension and lipid abnormalities. Dr. O’Brien enjoys spending his free time with his wife, daughter and son. He also enjoys reading, history, biking and walking, and loves to be a handyman around his house.
